Default Going sailing.

Forecast is 31 degrees with 20-25 kts on a 1 - 1.5 metre swell so I'm
off for a day or two.

Sounds like February in Michigan, unless you're citing degrees Celsius.

Celsius....and i'm back early.
Southerly change came thru much stronger than expected, saw 65kts for
a short time then pretty consistent 50s.
Not fun anymore, high tailed it home.

What sort of boat do you have? 65kts. is probably not fun in just about
anything.

46' cruiser racer, we had 4 slabs out and flying a blade.
Still made good time uphill, but it was very very wet :-)

Saw a similarly-sized boat in the BVI, flying a twice-reefed main and
something somewhat larger than a blade. And it was planing periodically.
Quite a sight. The trades had freshened to roughly 35kts. and I trust that
boat probably displaced about the same as a 35' racer/cruiser.

Yep, we're pretty light in race trim and pop out pretty early.

It's an awesome sight to see, a big boat up and screaming along. I'd love
to experience that some time. The larges thing I've ever planed in was a
Snipe or a Thistle. And that isn't always fun, rather frightening at times.

???
Frightening? Why? What's the worst that could happen??

I bet!! Which one? I'd love to go for a ride on one of those. Chessie
Racing was in Beaufort NC for a while but spent most of the time locked
up with nobody around, it was said the plan was to take people out for
daysails for pay but then she disappeared.

One of the Djuice boats.
A friend here bought both of them at a bargain price and sold one off
again.

Those are really cool boats. Were there any delam problems? What sail
inventory did he get?

Good. I've heard a lot about various structural problems these boats
seem to have.

The boats were bought with the complete package, all the sails and
container loads of spares.
He got a good deal, the Djuice boats were the under performers of the
Volvo.

IIRC they were a bit narrower. A full scale design concept test! The
idea worked out on Kingfisher.

And being an "underperformer" as a Volvo 60 means that it'll blow the
doors off almost anything else on the water.
