Ever hear of "Sterling Forrest"? it is quite some ways from midtown NYC. a
bit of comm gear there, hooked up to a bit backup systems. I had virtually all of my customers in WTC (I lost none as individuals, but several as companies) with all its comm gear working within the week, working well within two weeks and working as before in four weeks. Most had inadequate backup systems. I imagine all have quite excellent backup today. Either would set the country back considerably. Probably more damage from a hit on NYC, because of its position as a financial, communications and commercial center. I'm sure many or most of our financial institutions have set up backup arrangements, but the loss of people, both those with know-how and those with "institutional memory" would take a long time to remedy. Also, the financial system includes many many smaller operations, many of which don't have backup systems or people. None of these smaller operations is very significant taken alone, but the collective loss would be devastating. |
