Why the Mockery?
Why must everyone deride and mock the Good Captain? He is one of the few to
think primarily of ideas, of cause and effect. He's consistently kept this board on track with pertinent sailing related topics and broadened it by applying time tested truths to the world at large. I, for one, admire the Good Captain who disdains the fashionable for the correct and true! He is a real life role model for everyone, being a principled humantarian and philosopher. The Good Captain knows the difference between "fun" and contentment. God Bless him. Gilligan |
He's consistently kept this
board on track with pertinent sailing related topics and broadened it by He isn't here any more and so he's not consistant in anything that we know about. He sailed a crappy boat, an ugly boat and issued dangerous advise on a regular basis. When his boat suffered a broken boom, he made a questionable repair. When his boat needed new sails, he sought out a bargain rather than finding better sails. He's a lot like Scotty Potti but with a marginally better boat. RB |

"Bobsprit" wrote in message He isn't here any more and so he's not consistant in anything that we know about. {sp: consistent} Not true, the Good Captain stayed the course. He sailed a crappy boat, an ugly boat and issued dangerous advise on a regular basis. The Good Captain rightfully chose function over form. His advice was only dangerous to those who were not expert mariners such as he. When his boat suffered a broken boom, he made a questionable repair. He showed extreme resourcefullness. The repair still functions perfectly today and it is the optimal repair for that condition. When his boat needed new sails, he sought out a bargain rather than finding better sails. The Good Captain can set his sails so well and his boat responds so quickly and efficiently(because of its highly modified hull form) that there is very little force upon the rigging and sails. He's a lot like Scotty Potti but with a marginally better boat. That's a great compliment to Scotti. I really like his Siedelberg boat. Gilligan RB |

I am glad you agree Doug. I don't see how power tools can be of any danger
to the Good Captain. The voltage drop on an extension cord of sufficient length would most certainly limit the torque of any type of rotating machinery. Gilligan "DSK" wrote in message . .. Why must everyone deride and mock the Good Captain? Gilligan Why the mockery indeed Little buddy. The good Capt. Neal is a diamond in the midst of a dull, gray spread of ashes. He offers excellent sailing advice not found anywhere else, excellent political analysis, deep philosophical insight and all in a deeply entertaining, unique literary style. On top of that - he does it for free! Normally people would have to pay hundreds, if not thousands to subscribe to a newsletter of the same caliber of the good Capt's writings. Of course the good Capt was doing this primarily for his own entertainment but a second and much greater benefit is that it is for your own good! Heed his word and you shall live a long fullfilled life of independence as a man standing on his own two feet and not as a knave writhing in the slop of the government trough. The good Capt. Neal should be encouraged to write more of his musings, when he returns, lest the be lost to the wisdom of the ages. As with an Einstein, Thomas Jefferson, Ludwig von Mises, Edmund Rostand and the like, great men like these only appear once or twice a century. The swine here grovels in the mire spitting out the pearls contained within the good Capt. advice and wisdom!!! That is why many here will have bellies that shall drag the ground, noses that know only the scent of decomposing earth, and eyes that see no further than the next anthill!! Hopefully the good capt will return in time to shore up Florida for President Bush like he did last time. Thanks for setting the lubbers strait. Joe |

Now that my busy season has revved into high gear, I'm time-challenged and
relegated to following the rules of the presidential debates: ~get in a few canned quotes and wait for the red light to start blinking.~ Scout "In case you haven't noticed, and as a result of a shamelessly rigged election in Florida, in which thousands of African Americans were arbitrarily disenfranchised, we now present ourselves to the rest of the world as proud, grinning, jut-jawed, pitiless war lovers, with appallingly powerful weaponry and unopposed. In case you haven't noticed, we are now almost as feared and hated all over the world as the Nazis were. With good reason." -Kurtie V.
