i have been involved in a number of projects up and down the hudson river and taking the trian just about everyday. during the republican convention here in NY, the police were stationed at the major train stops (day and night) the purpose being two fold (my understanding) first to scare off any terrorists (!) second to pluck roving gangs of protesters off the trains before they reached penn station. gf. A good thing, assuming they would know a terrorist when they saw one, which is doubtful. second to pluck roving gangs of protesters off the trains before they reached penn station. Not a good thing... BTW does anybody else find it ominous that President Bush is buddying up to the Russians and talking admiringly about their system? Can't he at least wait until after the (cough) election? Truman I was listening to NPR last night. Daniel Shore was giving his commentary, but I tuned in about 1/2 way through. He was talking about restricting civil liberties, the president asking the people to put up with several moderately heavy-handed techniques to combat domestic terrorism, etc. I was thinking that this was a bit much even for Shore, even though he is quite liberal. I thought he was a bit over the top, since Bush/Cheney/Ashcroft hadn't really gone that far (yet). Then, I realized he was talking about Putin. Scary. -- Jonathan Ganz (j gan z @ $ail no w.c=o=m) http://www.sailnow.com "If there's no wind, row." |

Daniel Shore liberal?
NPR is about the most balanced journalism around except in the mornings here in NYC when they broadcast that idiot (talbit smiley something or other) from WNYC with his racist bull****. in fact about a year ago (or 2............my mind wonders) they produced a full page ad in the NY times regarding the israeli and palestinian mess. the israelis responded with force the palistinians were silent. interesting. gf.
