Tiwanese Yacht Builders have/had a reputation for shady practices and
cutthroat competition, resulting in some yachts of dubious build
quality. Does anyone have any information regarding the Seaton Neville
designed Choy Lee 63' LRMS. There are 3 examples of this boat on
Yacht World, an 84,85, and an 86 which are of interest to a friend.

Cheoy Lees were built in a number of different yards. Some were pretty
good, some were awful and fully deserving the name 'leaky teakies.' Only
a close inspection of the individual boat can tell you the answer.

Over the past three years I've looked at a heck of a lot of Taiwan built
trawlers, including Grand Banks. The best of them were above average for
production boats in structural detail, average wiring, below average
plumbing... and fantastic joinery. The worst of them were so bad it was
hard to believe they were still afloat 18 years later... ever seen
chipboard bulkheads? And the worst of them still have better joinery and
better looking wood than most American or European production boats.
