The only thing that matters is getting a medal. US has one medal, the Brits
have 5. Just like racing, only the top 3 finishers get the flags. I misspoke, we aren't getting stomped by the "rest of the world" just the Brits and Spaniards, who have 3 medals at this point. Apparently the Brazilians have already collected the gold in the Star, though it hasn't been presented yet, it looks like the US has an outside chance of collecting a medal here, and a lock on the Star competition, but this would still only give them 3 medals, equaling the Spanish. I guess it's a reflection of the state of the sport in the US more than anything else. Surprising not to see the Aussies or Kiwis up there also. I don't know that I'd call it getting "stomped". Gold in the men's 470. 5th place in the Women's 470 and in the 49er. 8th in the Laser. Midfleet in the rest of the events that have finished. And with four reces remaining, the US team is second in the Tornado and 4th in the Star. -- //-Walt // // http://cagle.slate.msn.com/working/040514/matson.gif |
