Looks to me like he was AWOL for eight years.

How is someone AWOL from when they are no longer required to
participate in Reserve activities? He was subject to recall, but that
doesn't make him AWOL.

Again, you appear to be confusing Bush with Kerry. On second thought,
you just appear confused. Further, his enlistment date was February
18, 1966, not August.
