Yes it did, but went right across Florida and into the gulf, luckly it went ashore near Brownsville a very un-populated secrtion of the Texas Coast It seemed to me that Alex was somewhat of an anomaly. I've never seen a full-fledged hurricane develope that far west or that far north. The waters awlful hot, the gulf is very warm. Makes swimming almost unenjoyable its so warm. We all feel we are long overdue here for the big one. Last big one here was Alicia in the early 80's with 110-120 knot winds. I rode that one out on a 220' Supplyboat called The Point Barrow. The eye went right over us. And the last really really big one was the 1900 storm that wiped out Galveston. They say they only come once every 100 years and it's been 104 years. We have been out a couple times this year just scouting out hurricane holes. If the winds are over 125kts we will leave the marina and head up a bayou called Ceder Bayou. The area has high banks, and lots of really big trees to tie off to. I have rode out a few minor hurricanes here in the marina, usually the surge is about 5-6 feet above the non floating docks. Its safe enough but if the winds go above 125 then the huge boat sheds here might come down on us. Did you take the day off and go surfing Doug? No, but I thought about going windsurfing. Whats with you, seems storms like to follow you around ![]() This one missed by about 75 miles. But we are still ready to duck & cover! Hope you tied up your trawler with enough slack to handle the surge. Looks like your going to get another round next week. Yep, we're keeping our eyes peeled. Hope you are too. Get some towels & duct tape! What for? We are fueled up, stocked up and ready! Joe |
