They will accept bias voting record information over the polls of numerous groups. I don't really believe Kerry is an extremist liberal, but he certainly is about as far left as anyone in the Senate these days, by virtue of his voting record. That said, he has a long way to go to be as extreme as Michael Moore. But in this particular campaign there is so much rhetoric coming from the far left--Kerry really has not distanced himself from the likes of Moore, Franken, and Dean--that it is easy to equate the Kerry/Edwards campaign with the extremists. The numerous groups who track voting records look at the entire bill being voted on and then access whether it is good or bad for that particular group. And they give a rating of 0 to 100. Kerry popped out as tied at one extreme with 93. That makes him extremist. It makes him ostensibly the most liberal senator, but an extremist? They don't want to accept that fact that he is a liberal. Not proud of it, and wants to paint hmself as something he is not. It would be tough to paint Kerry as anything other than a liberal. He certainly is no centrist, nor is John E. This is the most liberal ticket the democrats have had since McGovern. And he wants to run on a shaky war record, like he is some kind of a hero, when he cowardly bailed out after only four months of combat duty. This is what I find so scary, as do so many others. GWB is having a tough enough time. He needs our support, and four more years to accomplish something. We don't need to change watch now. It's double or nothing. Traditionally liberals have a tough time getting elected in this country, at least since LBJ. Even Clinton saw this and placed his campaign rhetoric only slightly left of center. Kerry simply has too much baggage to pass himself off as a centrist. He is a liberal, and he seems to make no bones about it. If one is for bigger government and higher taxes, he's their man. Max |
