Default Candidate for Seamanship Questions

True about losing all five but I wanted to make it real difficult to arrive
at the actual question, How do you steer and navigate without all the
gadgets?

Asan aside the businessabout the poles flipping N. for S. had t ready
answers. One was, of course, use the N. Arrow for S. and vice versa.
Second was most of us on larger ships use gyro compasses and if satellites
are functioning GPS compasses. Third is getting back to what I'm looking
for . . .how do you steer without a compass and all the other gadgets?

What kinda emergency rudder system do you have?
Compass is out too . .. all you have is yourself and your skills

Spinnaker pole and predrilled plywood with U bolts. Rope harness for
rigging it across the arch supports. We have several magnets on board
(even if the compass gets broken it has a magnet too) including the
stereo speakers! With that I would magnetize a piece of steel -even one
of the emergency hacksaw blades broken in half would do. A compass rose
from a chart would do as a rose. But it's very unlikely we would lose
all 5 compasses on board.

Cheers
