By the way, Sphinx was a schooner.

Many schooner's still use spinnakers for down wind sailing.

As Jax stated on the Sphinx but to continue in 1866 as sort of a baggy
genoa. However the parachute spinnaker was introduced around 1927 on a
yacht "Maybe" by Swede Sven Salen and was the first 'modern' spinnaker.
