I believe I did say that Jaime quit.

I haven't seen the movie, rather was paraphrasing what I'd heard on the
radio. And we all know how Hollywood loves to embellish and exaggerate,
leading one to conclude that the movie may or may not be accurately factual.
My guess is that the moviemaker would be reluctant to take the NEA to task.
I'm still looking for the real story.

Oh, it's easily verifiable. It's the movie "Stand and Deliver," the name
of the teacher is the same as the first name of the actor.

It's nice to see Maxprop trying to back up his statements with at least
some form of near-fact.

Why thanks, Doug. In your arrogant and derogatory way, you've paid me a

Arrogance only exists in the eye of the underling - so I won't question your

The economy that began falling with the tech collapse a few years

The

Rush Limbaugh? and why he & his listeners are losers...

Thanks for the link.

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/men...ne_rush_limbau
gh_interview___entire_transcript.guest.html

I heard the show that Limbaugh's talking about while in the car, except
for a few minutes when I stopped for gas. That's exactly how I remember
it. The "Skull and Bones" comment was a throwaway, aimed at kidding
Bonesman Bush and egging on a caller who said it looked like a
fraternity prank. After the first few days, Limbaugh had a hard time
taking it as gravely seriously as the liberal media was trying to spin
it. You can compare what a few dirtbag soldiers did at Abu Ghraib to
Saddam's mass-killings, only so long before you have to point out the
difference between putting live people through a plastic-shredder and
piling up some nasty terrorists naked so you can take pictures of them.
Limbaugh took it seriously at first, before it became crystal clear
that the libs were starting to spin it into some kind of new Auschwitz.

The latest Limbaugh comments were done entirely for the benefit of
David Brock at http://mediamatters.org/ just so Brock would have
something to write about that day. Gotta keep all the Rush-haters
happy. Give them something to do.

LIMBAUGH:

I would wager two hours and 58 minutes were spent discussing the
aspects of those photos that repulsed everybody, including me, that
disappointed everybody, including me, and that angered everybody,
including me. The point that I made was that this is not worth
demeaning our entire war effort. This is not worth undermining the
purpose for which we are there. That this does not speak for America.
This does not speak for the American military. This is not who we are.
The people who did this are the people who are responsible for it. They
should be investigated. We should take care of this, find out who did
what, punish them accordingly, and move on with what we're really there
to do.

And I think that these photos have been used as a political opportunity
here by opponents and enemies of the president to blame him and use
this is an effort to discredit the entire war in Iraq. And a caller
called and said, “It looks to me like this is a fraternity hazing,” and
I said yeah, you could probably see this at a Skull and Bones
initiation. And I chose Skull and Bones on purpose because I was
taunting the media, who was already going nuts over these photos. You
know, Bush is Skull and Bones, Kerry is Skull and Bones, and the media
doesn't like Skull and Bones because it's secretive and what goes on
there -- I mean I could have just as easily said a college fraternity
hazing prank, but I chose Skull and Bones just to try to relate to the
media in dumping on Bush, which everybody has missed. So, out of the
three-hour show, two minutes of comments in response to a caller were
taken out of context and reported as the substance of what I said,
which it was not.

The Army was on top of the story and investigating it before any
reporters even knew the first thing about it. The first reporters
actually got nearly all their story straight from the Army. This was
the Abu Ghraib knowledge at the time CBS broke the story:

Abuse Of Iraqi POWs By GIs Probed
CBS News
April 29, 2004
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/...in614063.shtml

[snip]

It was American soldiers serving as military police at Abu Ghraib who
took these pictures. The investigation started when one soldier got
them from a friend, and gave them to his commanders. 60 Minutes II has
a dozen of these pictures, and there are many more – pictures that show
Americans, men and women in military uniforms, posing with naked Iraqi
prisoners.

There are shots of the prisoners stacked in a pyramid, one with a slur
written on his skin in English.

In some, the male prisoners are positioned to simulate sex with each
other. And in most of the pictures, the Americans are laughing, posing,
pointing, or giving the camera a thumbs-up.

60 Minutes II was only able to contact one of the soldiers facing
charges. But the Army says they are all in Iraq, awaiting court
martial.

"What can the Army say specifically to Iraqis and others who are going
to see this and take it personally," Rather asked Kimmitt, in an
interview conducted by satellite from Baghdad.

"The first thing I’d say is we’re appalled as well. These are our
fellow soldiers. These are the people we work with every day, and they
represent us. They wear the same uniform as us, and they let their
fellow soldiers down,” says Kimmitt.

“Our soldiers could be taken prisoner as well. And we expect our
soldiers to be treated well by the adversary, by the enemy. And if we
can't hold ourselves up as an example of how to treat people with
dignity and respect … We can't ask that other nations to that to our
soldiers as well."

“So what would I tell the people of Iraq? This is wrong. This is
reprehensible. But this is not representative of the 150,000 soldiers
that are over here,” adds Kimmitt. “I'd say the same thing to the
American people... Don't judge your army based on the actions of a
few."

One of the soldiers facing court martial is Army Reserve Staff Sgt.
Chip Frederick.

Frederick is charged with maltreatment for allegedly participating in
and setting up a photo, and for posing in a photograph by sitting on
top of a detainee. He is charged with an indecent act for observing one
scene. He is also charged with assault for allegedly striking
detainees – and ordering detainees to strike each other.

60 Minutes II talked with him by phone from Baghdad, where he is
awaiting court martial.

Frederick told us he will plead not guilty, claiming the way the Army
was running the prison led to the abuse of prisoners.

“We had no support, no training whatsoever. And I kept asking my chain
of command for certain things...like rules and regulations,” says
Frederick. “And it just wasn't happening."

Six months before he faced a court martial, Frederick sent home a video
diary of his trip across the country. Frederick, a reservist, said he
was proud to serve in Iraq. He seemed particularly well-suited for the
job at Abu Ghraib. He’s a corrections officer at a Virginia prison,
whose warden described Frederick to us as “one of the best.”

Frederick says Americans came into the prison: “We had military
intelligence, we had all kinds of other government agencies, FBI,
CIA ... All those that I didn't even know or recognize."

Frederick's letters and email messages home also offer clues to
problems at the prison. He wrote that he was helping the interrogators:

"Military intelligence has encouraged and told us 'Great job.' "

"They usually don't allow others to watch them interrogate. But since
they like the way I run the prison, they have made an exception."

"We help getting them to talk with the way we handle them. ... We've
had a very high rate with our style of getting them to break. They
usually end up breaking within hours."

According to the Army’s own investigation, that’s what was happening.
The Army found that interrogators asked reservists working in the
prison to prepare the Iraqi detainees, physically and mentally, for
questioning.

What, if any actions, are being taken against the interrogators?

"I hope the investigation is including not only the people who
committed the crimes, but some of the people that might have encouraged
these crimes as well,” says Kimmitt. “Because they certainly share some
level of responsibility as well."

But so far, none of the interrogators at Abu Ghraib are facing criminal
charges. In fact, a number of them are civilians, and military law
doesn’t apply to them.

One of the civilian interrogators at Abu Ghraib was questioned by the
Army, and he told investigators he had "broken several tables during
interrogations, unintentionally," while trying to "fear up" prisoners.
He denied hurting anyone.

In our phone conversation, 60 Minutes II asked Frederick whether he had
seen any prisoners beaten.

“I saw things. We had to use force sometimes to get the inmates to
cooperate, just like our rules of engagement said,” says Frederick. “We
learned a little bit of Arabic, basic commands. And they didn't want to
listen, so sometimes, you would just give them a little nudge or
something like that just to get them to cooperate so we could get the
mission accomplished."

Attorney Gary Myers and a judge advocate in Iraq are defending
Frederick. They say he should never have been charged, because of the
failure of his commanders to provide proper training and standards.

"The elixir of power, the elixir of believing that you're helping the
CIA, for God's sake, when you're from a small town in Virginia, that's
intoxicating,” says Myers. “And so, good guys sometimes do things
believing that they are being of assistance and helping a just
cause. ... And helping people they view as important."

Frederick says he didn't see a copy of the Geneva Convention rules for
handling prisoners of war until after he was charged.

The Army investigation confirms that soldiers at Abu Ghraib were not
trained at all in Geneva Convention rules. And most were reservists,
part-time soldiers who didn't get the kind of specialized prisoner of
war training given to regular Army members.

Frederick also says there were far too few soldiers there for the
number of prisoners: “There was, when I left, there was over 900. And
there was only five soldiers, plus two non-commissioned officers, in
charge for those 900 -- over 900 inmates."

Rather asked Kimmitt about understaffing. "That doesn't condone
individual acts of criminal behavior no matter how tired we are. No
matter how stretched we are, that doesn't give us license and it
doesn't give us the authority to break the la,” says Kimmitt.

“That may have been a contributing factor, but at the end of the day,
this is probably more about leadership, supervision, setting standards,
abiding by the Army values and understanding what's right, and having
the guts to say what's right.”

Yep. Did you hear him say "Saddam had the right idea on how to deal with
these people?" Did you hear him say "If it's women that are doing the
torturing, it's not really torture?"

I did and so did everybody in the shop. Most of them, even the
dittoheads, were appalled, one serious Joe-like person agreed. Since
Limbaugh has been distancing himself from those comments, he's
emphasized the Skull & Bones (which is not too good) as a red herring to
distract from some of his worse comments.

The man has no moral code: If you believe that torture is good when done

The answer to that and not surprisingly why Libertarian radio attracts
listeners while their counter-culture equavalents do not is the same.

Interesting thesis, but I'd hardly call Limbaugh or the people he champions
Libertarian. I only recently learned that Hillary Clinton and Leon Penetta
had both worked for Goldwater back in 1964, as did Reagan. So did I. LBJ's
landslide victory taught me that people don't want freedom, just the
appearance of freedom. Sadly, Goldwater's defeat handed the Republican party
over to the religious right - to people who believe that the Government's
job is to force everybody to obey the rules dictated by "the voices" and
their invisible friend - and these theocrats have controlled the GOP ever
since.

However your are wrong in saying their is no equivalent. The basis is

simply
mindset. Radio require some mental acuity and ability to reason. The
equivalent to radio is TV and in some cases movies. TV requires no
attention span nor thinking ability. Nor in do movies (and I draw a
distinction between 'movies' and 'film.' The equivalent to Rush Limbaugh

is
probably somebody like Jerry Springer, or the evening news provided by

the
former 'major media.' Radio and it's equivalents invite discourse,

debate,
the use of logic, facts and reasoning.

TV *is* less intellectual so Springer cannot be the Democrat equivalent of
Limbaugh - unless you believe that all Democrats are stupider than Bush, and
I can't buy that - not when Bush's main constituancy comprises the Homer
Simpsons among us. Nor is Limbaugh libertarian or conservative in the sense
that Goldwater was. A Limbaugh equivalent would poke fun at the village
idiot's poor English and at his illogical ideas just like Limbaugh did
Clintoon's antics.. I.e.:" Mr President, you say we must stop abortion and
topple Saddam. Why?" "Doh, cuz my 'visible friend say so! Ah, doh, wa you
in kindergarten when them terrorists struck? Ah was! Ah was think'n about
Dick 'n Jane when 'the voices' said 'Get that damn Hussien.".

TV, along with most movies are propaganda efforts. ....

Agree, but never saw the shows you mention.

"Support a return to the two party system . . .vote Libertarian."

Just might do that -- or write in Jessie Jackson (c:

Hey, take it easy on Joe. He has obviously been living in an oxygen
poor environment for some time now down in the Houston ship channel.
After all, George W was the "environmental governor" down here. Heck,
just look at some of his accomlishments...

"Under George W. Bush's leadership, Texas ranks number one in a many
categories of pollution and environmental degradation. For example,
Texas is:

#1 in the Emission of Ozone Causing Air Pollution Chemicals
#1 in Toxic Chemical releases into the Air
#1 in use of Deep Well Injectors as method of Waste Disposal
#1 in counties listed in top 20 of Emitting Cancer Causing Chemicals
#1 in Total Number of Hazardous Waste Incinerators
#1 in Environmental Justice Title 6 complaints
#1 in production of Cancer causing Benzene & Vinyl Chloride
#1 Largest Sludge Dump in Country"

Now poor Joe lives right down in the heart of that mess. Rumor has it
that anytime folks in Houston get some sort of weather pattern that
allows their minds to start to clear, the Republicans turn up the
emissions to keep them dazed and confused.:) It is obviously
working:)

Thats because Texas refines more oil than any other state. And most
likely more than any country on earth. You use gasoline?

#1 in Toxic Chemical releases into the Air

Most likey left wing tree hugger bull****, but Texas produces more
chemical than any other state and most likely any other country. You
use plastic?

#1 in use of Deep Well Injectors as method of Waste Disposal

Also the largest underground storage of oil in the world. Ever hear of
the the stratigic oil reserve? Salt domes are excellent stable
underground storage facilities. If the **** ever hits the fan we will
have gas, Will you? Most likey due to Texas you will.

#1 in counties listed in top 20 of Emitting Cancer Causing Chemicals

Well the wind is normally from the south here so it blows to Oklahoma.

#1 in Total Number of Hazardous Waste Incinerators

Most likely more left wing BS but someone has to clean up after you
slobs.

#1 in Environmental Justice Title 6 complaints

Boo ho call the law!
#1 in production of Cancer causing Benzene & Vinyl Chloride

You been sniffing Benzene again? Got vinal siding on you lubbery
house?
#1 Largest Sludge Dump in Country"

Yeah right, I live close to the coast and 99% of the time we get a
breeze from the south, can you figure that one out? We have the best
fishing in the gulf, bay full of oysters, shrimp, gulf full of red
snappers, groupers, produce more cattle than any other state, have the
world best health care systems, cheap gasoline, deer everywere, NASA,
the busiest port in the world, I can walk 20 yards and catch excellent
redfish, shrimp, speckled trout, blue crabs, stone crabs. I can shoot
duck, geese, quail, exotic deer ect, It a damn paradise.
And I can carry a fully loaded AR-15 in my pickup and no one gives it
a second thought. I can hide my Colt under my Coat and It OK, infact
it's expected.

And to top it off Texas is so Big and out produces every other state
in everything it's likely we are going to have more waste.ect. Take
any bunch of the little states and add them together to get the same
land mass as Texas and you will find out that they out pollute Texas
by a long shot. minus Alaska of course.
