Here are some reasons to drop a sail while BBQing off the back rail.

1) Boom stays in one place, less to worry about while you tend the grill.
2) Some forward motion of the boat keeps smoke aft and out of your eyes
3) Boat sails better in light air (which I specified) with genoa as opposed to
main alone.
4) Dispite Spirt's ignorant comment, it's near impossible to envision a fire
risk with an aft mounted grill in light air while underway! So much for the
Ferry sailor!

Of course, this is pretty obvious to anyone who sails and cooks underway.
Scotty-Potty does neither.
