Danger, Will Robinson!!!

DO NOT CLICK this link if you are bothered by gore.

This is the result of a powerboat accident, injuries inflicted by propellers.

If nothing else, this ought to instill deep respect for how dangerous a
spinning prop can be!!!

It looks like OZ, New South Wales, leads the world in shark attacks
and fatal shark attacks. Distribution chart.

Interesting, what happened in SA during 1998, black folk getting some of their own back? ;-o

Cheers

Has anyone here actually seen a shark attack or the victim of one?

I stepped on a little nurse shark on St Pete Beach about 10 years ago...I
ran very fast....
My brother was scuba diving while he was stationed in Hawaii and a shark
wouldn't leave him alone so he planted his fist in its' nose and it left....

Raise your hands... yes, I've seen the aftermath up close.

I was walking down the beach in north county San Diego. Came
across a guy standing in the shallow surf in a deserted section of
the beach, just him and his girl friend. He was standing in a sloshing
pool of blood, she was hysterical. He was clearly in shock... just
standing there. I got him on dry land, then took a look at his foot/
ankle area. A big piece was missing/hanging on the lower back calf.
I figured he didn't have much time because of loss of blood, didn't
have anything to tie it off or compress it. His gf was not in any shape
to go and get help. So, after a lot of coaxing, I got her to help him
compress the wound with their hands. Then, I went for help.
Fortunately, I was much younger and the normal 40 minute trip
took only about half that time. I never went back after the paramedics
went for him, but I heard he was ok.

No, But I had my leg cut to the bone dealing with a manta ray. And I
had a deck hand have his hand sucked into as turbo charger.

Never let anyone in shock just stand there. Elevate the wound, calm
him, stop the bleeding and get help.

Should of snached off her top or bra, wimp.

when I had my leg cut to the bone I did not even notice it, Luckly a
friend was swimming with me and pointed out the big cloud of blood. Im
sure if I spent any time in the water Hector would of had my ass.

I never went back after the paramedics
went for him, but I heard he was ok.

Yeah you gotta lose many pints before you die. I lost approx 5 pints
in my ordeal. Thats what they gave me anyway. It was at the island of
Deigo Garcia close to the fishing barge. We were snorkeliong the reefs
and hitched a ride on a Manta ray that had a wing span of approx 16
feet. My buddy grabed him at the wrong place and he freaked, when he
did his tail cut me like a sword on the back of my leg and you could
see the bone. Damn thing was as sharp as a scaple and I did not even
feel it.

It still bothers me were the cut was the deepest, the circulation has
never been the same, but thats the price I paid to mess around with
the wildest creatures the sea has to offer. If you want to experience
the sea and its creature you better be willing to pay the price.

I guess mantas can be dangerous...

Why do you think she had a top or bottom? This was Black's Beach
in the early 70s.

Capt. Mooron June 26th 04 05:37 PM

Danger, Will Robinson!!!

Yup... two guys spearfishing off Shark Point in Brewer's Bay... on the point
before you enter Cane Garden Bay. They cleaned their catch and tied the fish
to a rope... then swam to their boat from shoretowing the stringer of fish..
The Lemon Shark bit at the fish on the stringer and ended up removing a
large chunk of calf muscle. Lucky for the victim there was a conference of
vascular surgeons on the island at the time.

I used my towel to stem some of the bleeding. We loaded him into a Suzuki
and drove him to the hospital. If that shark had been interested in anything
but the fish... neither of those two would be alive now. Shark attacks are
largely based on the ignorance of the humans in the water. We are not their
natural food source.

Nurse Sharks won't bite you unless you man handle them. I had a ride on an 8
foot Nurse Shark in the Samoas... I hung on to the dorsal... for about 30
seconds.. then the shark turned on the power and left me spinning at 45 feet
under water. I was skin diving at the time... no tanks. What a Blast!
