That chromed anchor would flash in the sun and attract attention. When
the pirates got close, the crew might scare them off but Bob****'d be
hiding under the V berth leaving the women to do the work.

All theoretical of course unless there are armed pirates within 200m of
his marina berth.

Yeah, from what I recall.
He's now a sailing instructor out of Pt Stephens, ex British Navy.
That fact saved his life as they heloed him out to a navy ship for
treatment after he dropped a Mayday using the radio he'd hidden for
just such an event.

Yeah, look, I don't disagree. If you resist, you'd better win

Yep, and it's the heroes like Joe that become fishfood at least a
couple of times a month.

As I said my strategy is to be somewhere else.

Yep, I was doing an Ambon race a few years ago and picked up a suspect
boat on the horizon.

You doing Ambon this year? One of the guys who works with me is going.

There's nothing anyone on a small boat can do against a 50 cal (or
even a 30 cal) machine gun.

You could shoot the person firing the 50 cal.

Yeah, you could. And you better be sure you hit them coz the return
fire is gonna be a stream of tracer so they can walk it right across
your boat, nicely compensating for pitch/roll.

I've been shooting long guns for nearly 40 years now. That one is a
real bad bet.

That just denotes a lack of imagination, cunning and strategy.... there is
a win situation.

Good but not always available....

| If the bad guys have heavy automatic weapons, there's little point in
| firing a rifle at them.

Depends entirely on the rifle and the aim........ Long Distance - Reach
Out and Touch Someone!

Unless they have a splinter shield.

Heavy Autos are intrinsically weak at long ranges.... no matter how much
lead they can deliver in a minute. I'd pick them off at 500 meters with a
338 Win Mag .... never mind a .50 cal Barnett Semi Auto at 2000 meters.

Doubt it. A 30 BMG is remarkably accurate and that design dates back to
(IIRC) 1917. The 50 BMG is not a lot worse tho I've never had the
pleasure of playing with one. You're not on a range now; I've shot over
a spotlight from the back of a utility 4WD for many years and it's damn
hard to hit things when they're moving one way, you're moving another
and you have one shot at a time. You can't spot the fall of shot easily
at sea esp through a scope. Long odds if you didn't get a first shot
hit, the MG guy would walk a burst right arcoss the boat. They have
tracer.

Us Aussies and you Canucks don't have to worry about such stuff, tho.
All we need to do is fly a NZ flag and pirates will know we have
nothing worth stealing. Demeaning, but if you can fake the accent
you're home.

Well, it seems like you've got all the knowledge about gays. You're

I noticed you didn't answer the question. Are guns too masculine for
you?
