I think a Prius fits in with sailing nicely, making a big environmental statement...but what about the battery waste? Watch out Bob. A friend has one. Works great in stop and go city traffic where gas engines spend over half their lives idling at stop lights, but otherwise it sucks. Doesn't get as good mileage as their standard car even in suburban use and gets alot worse on the highway where its poor performance makes it a hazard on the road. If you're unfortunate enough to live *in* a city then the fuel savings and tax benefit might overcome the extra investment someday. They commute into DC. It doesn't. |

where gas engines spend over half their lives idling at stop lights, but otherwise it sucks. This is a new 2004 model and it seems to have reasonable power on the highway. I'll let you know about the MPG, but we drove it 80 miles last night and the fuel meter barely moved. My Outback drinks gas by comparison. The STI is worse unless you drive easy. Our friend's new Prius averages 45-50 MPG overall. RB |
