Good question..why don't you, Katy? Clearly the 24 hr. boycott won't effect
station owners or gas companies, but the coverage of a "boycott" on the news
lets politicians know what might get them knocked out of office.

... and your average gas station owner does not make a very big
profit on the gas...he makes his profit on selling cappuccino, coffee, and
candy bars....so who gets hurt the most? Small business...the guy down the
block....Why don't people have the ability to think these things through all
the way?

Because politcal hype, from both sides, discourages thinking it all the
way through. If people *thought* then we would never have gotten in
theis mess, would we?

would probably have an alternative to oil by now....

Shucks, we have *lots* of alternatives to gasoline & fossil fuels. The
problem is that most of them are a lot more expensive, and the few that
are price competitive, especially as a vehicle fuel (such as methane),
with gasoline, are not readily available & are somewhat troublesome to
handle.

One of the biggest issues with American consumers is convenience. When
you see fuel cell recharging stations lining up to take business right
next to gas pumps, then maybe we'll have gotten somewhere. In the
meantime, electric cars are a pretty good alternative.
