MILDEW...

I found some isolated areas [port and starboard settee / bunk area behind
the flip up back rests] that had some mildew staining. That damned black
crap in the corners on the fabric. I was disgusted!

Well I panicked and rented a 3500 psi pressure washer... stripped out the
boat ... opened the windows and went nuts! I cleaned the interior top to
bottom. The upholstery is like new now, the hand made Quebec Lace curtains
are soaking.... and the friggin' Mildew is so outta there it's like it was
never present.

I also managed to rent out the washer to 3 other folks working on their
boats and made the rental fee + $50.

The pressure wash of the interior will now be an annual task after seeing
the results. I normally machine wash all the cushions but I was stuck with
an upholstery cleaner and wet/dry vacuum for the stuff I couldn't remove
from the vessel. Not anymore..... Bwahahahahahahahahaaaa!!!!

You need to kill the spores. A wipe down with diluted bleach will do
that and sanitise the whole boat.

Cheers

Oh I killed the spores all right...... 3500 PSI with a biocide/fungicide
concentrate industrial cleaner. It was a "Scorched Earth Policy"!!!! Ethnic
spore cleansing! ;-D

I tried the bleach routine with all the effect of Bush in Iraq..... it
seemed like "insurgent" spores arrived from all over and I ended up with a
bigger mess on my hands than when we first cleaned the boat.

I left all the ports and hatches open and set a big fan in the companionway.
Light and air are the best methods to ensure the plague does not return.
I've seen it hit other boats up here and cause big problems.

Hi Ya Darlin'...... yes the crew did scrub the boat down and did get those
areas with a diluted [50/50] bleach solution. Obviously that had all the
effect of a "Liberation" "Crusade" on a Muslim country by Christian forces.

??? I'd guess that a 3500 psi did not work wonders on your joinery though.

One thing that's right is that you need a spray, or better an aerosol.
Simply wiping with bleach solution won't get into the crevices where the
spores are prevalent. But dilute bleach is very effective.

All that does is keep the spores from growing in areas that are directly
exposed & ventilated.... down in the little voids & spaces, they are
still growing and will burst out when you close up the boat.

And you should be. But have you ever heard of Tilex mildew remover,
perhaps a bucket of watered down bleach. A 3,500 psi pressure washer
is a bit extreme dont you think?

Are you soaking your matching hand crochet dolies?

Sheeeze................ Go for it mooron. I will keep the inside of
my boat dry, that way mildew will not grow.

Vinegar works just as well and is far more environmentally correct....
