The "Dutch" have done damn well, for years with Leeboards in their thin waters but they don't berth them! OT |

I'm not much for catamarran's at all but we have talked about a catboat...saw one we really liked at the boat show in February....also thought maybe something like a Point St Jude, which would be great for gunkholing around, too, but still sail nicely....but then, there is that cb Elite sitting down there.... -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A. ![]() Catboat sailors are not good sailors in general. You'll see evidence of this on their web sites where its stated they never reef or go out when it's windy. http://www.beetlecat.com/reefing.htm What's a Point St Jude? I couldn't find one in a google search. katysails wrote in message ... Goodness me, Bart! the Beetle Cat is a 12' boat, even if it is 6'
wide! I think Katy is after a little bigger, somehow. While she refuses even to consider a catboat with the good sailing manners and magic accommodation of the cat yawl Lady Kate, nevertheless a decent sized catboat, say 25', would work extremely well in the waters she's describing, even if the centreboard divides the cabin into two.... You'll see evidence of this on their web sites where its stated they never reef or go out when it's windy. http://www.beetlecat.com/reefing.htm Well, the Beetle Cat is basically a one-design racing dinghy. True, the design is over 75 years old IIRC, and it is closely modelled on classic catboats of an even earlier era, but it is a one-design racing dinghy. Bigger catboats definitely reef their sails. With the very long boom, it can be a challenge unless cleverly rigged. My family owned a 22' catboat with a 455 SqFt mainsail... I can tell you from personal experience that *some* catboat sailors reef when appropriate. What's a Point St Jude? I couldn't find one in a google search. I don't know of a web site talking about them, but it's a 15' hard chine old fashioned daysailer. Pretty boats, usually with tanbark sails. Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

I'm quoting them right off their Beettle Cat Web site.
They feely admit their lack of skill. I wouldn't include laser sailors. I'd rate them on the other end of the scale. Bart. DSK wrote Hoo-wee... Bart that is really a wild statement.
