Rather than asking everyone here to explain these things to you, have
you considered a Power Squadron course? One of the boats I chartered
in Maine, a Hinckley Pilot 35 had one of the RDFs installed, along
with a temperature guage in the cabin reflecting the temperature of
the seawater. I'll let you guess what that was used for As the
boat had a Loran, the RDF was of little use to us for that cruise
other than as a curiosity. They were very useful back in the preLoran
days when this particular boat was built..at least to someone who
knows how to use one.

occasion, not in 15 years or so, but certianly am no expert. You have
