Pregnant women suffer seasickness more easily
"Some women, when pregnant, must refrain from time on the water due to
severe bouts of naseau. Not only is this recommended for the comfort of the lady, it is imperative for the safety of the fetus. It has been found that the fetus can suffer from motion sickness also. This puts baby at greater risk." Handbook of Maritime Medicine, 1988, p 421, Selchow and Righter Publishers Van |

Hmm.. sailed to the Farallons on a Mason 43. One of the crew was
a pregant woman, probably in the last 2 month of pregancy. It was pretty rough that day, and she, along with only one other person managed not to get sick (I wasn't the other one). Actually it is mold spores in the bilge and cushions.
Search mycotoxins and related toxins. Largest cause of spontaneous miscarraiges. Van "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... Hmm.. sailed to the Farallons on a Mason 43. It seems that only one as arrogant as you would conclude that your
particular life experiences, however misguided, are the rule for countless others. For further edification on how much you've missed the mark, I would suggest searching on the noted publishers, Selchow and Righter. They are above critcism and highly regarded. I would think getting bumped hard would also be a risk factor.
Of course, in calm water that's less likely. "Van Allen" wrote in message link.net... Actually it is mold spores in the bilge and cushions. Search mycotoxins and related toxins. Of course it's a risk as is getting in the car to drive to the yacht.
Anyone who puts a pregnant woman in a car is clearly trying to kill the baby. It's the #1 killer. I can't even find a statistic for boat related cases. Silly thread in any case. RB |

Seasickness is most often an ocular/aural =
occurrence. 100% correct. Unless the baby has visual orientation it's unlikely to suffer from any kind of seasickness. Walking or driving would be far more jarring. That must be some study! RB |

Van I won't bother, I know of not one sailing woman who has had a miscarriage while sailing or in the months after sailing. I know quite a few who don't sail and have had problems. Maybe your researchers could look at cars, busses, planes and any other form of transport where motion sickness is a problem for some. Maybe they would suggest that a woman who suffer car sickness should walk rather than ride to ensure the safety of her fetus. I wonder if they looked at the health benefits of sailing for pregnant women as opposed to those sitting on the couch watching TV (is there an exposure risk there) while being fed chocolate by the dotting father to be.
