I've sailed on a hunter in over 20 kts. It was something in the 40+ foot range. I can't really recall. It lumbered like a tub. I hated it. No waves, but 3-4 foot chop. The last two times we were out there, we rented Hunter 290s from Club Nautique. Very roomy boat for it's length, clever design... sails well in moderate conditions... but not a good choice for reaching back & forth in the Slot! The lee of Angel Island looked & felt really good after that. OTOH the C&C 40 (if in good shape) would be a great boat for that area. But owning one in shares kinda sucks IMHO.
