Default Your "WORST" Almost Boat....?

I've sailed on a hunter in over 20 kts. It was something in the 40+ foot

I can't really recall. It lumbered like a tub. I hated it. No waves, but 3-4
foot
chop.

The last two times we were out there, we rented Hunter 290s from Club Nautique.
Very roomy boat for it's length, clever design... sails well in moderate
conditions... but not a good choice for reaching back & forth in the Slot! The
lee of Angel Island looked & felt really good after that.

OTOH the C&C 40 (if in good shape) would be a great boat for that area. But
owning one in shares kinda sucks IMHO.

I almost joined a partial ownership on a C&C 40 (early 80s as I recall).
It had a bunch of problems that I knew about (mostly electrical), had
the absolute **** for sails (but still sailed ok), then I found out it had
more serious problems... can't recall the details. Too bad to see a nice
boat in such bad shape. Would have taken lots and lots of $$ to get it
right.

Okay, everyone come clean....what's the worst boat buying mistake you

ALMOST
made?
For me, before I had a clue about good old boats....

I made an offer on a sad and rather homely looking Tanzer 26!
I nearly made an offer on an infamous Seidelman 25!
I looked at a early 80's Hunter 27! Holy weatherhelm!
I considered a tired Hunter 33! Zikes!
I nearly bought a Catalina 25 with bad decks and rusted keelbolts!

C'mon! I'm sure some of you have considered worse! No offense intended to
owners of the above. If it works for you, great.

Don't you be picking on Joe, Catty Claws. He's a red blooded all
American male and he's cute too.

You all do realize that Joe is rabid, suffers from an ongoing case of
untreated syphilis, and is a heroine addict? His above statement is an
example of the world that only he lives in.
