Hey Katy;

Are you still with us or have you become a snow statue?

After watching TV Weather, I really do feel like a Wimp for whining
about a few days of weather in the teens

47 Degrees here now with rain. I've come to the conclusion that we,here
in the NW have lousy weather but a great climate

I know you've had a rough time so far with still another 6 week to go.
Hang it there

Here in land locked Edmonton, Alberta we have had around -30C for about a
week with wind chill at -40C (that's -40F for you Americans) or colder!
Normal mean temp is about -11C for this time of year.

Here is the forecast for the next few days:

Scout, is the Bay frozen clear across? I was out on the east end of Long
Island and the ferry to Shelter Island had to resort to ice breaking to cross
the gap between Greenport and SI. It actually rode up on the ice and broke it
down. Had to back out of a thick piece and work in from a different angle.
The wife was a little worried. I think it is impassable now.

I don't know Skitch. I haven't been down there (about 75 mi from here) since
the temps dropped. Looking at the 9:30 AM pic (1/31/04), it appears that the
narrow channel may be open. I see lots of ice too. I always wanted to try
the ice sailing bit (sleds), looks like fun.

Comment On Question #324: "Can My Bipolar Mother Be A Control Freak?"

Comment submitted June 17, 2002: My mother is exactly the same [as the
mother referred to in Question 324]! I'm about to move just to get away from
her. I'm finally starting to notice, or have "flashbacks" of my childhood as
I watch her with my children, especially my eldest (who has mental problems
anyway). She just makes it harder to deal with him or to help him. My son
was diagnosed with Bipolar, and I was told that it does run in families, and
you can have other conditions along with it! Thus our mothers! My mother is
also a control freak. She's constantly trying to tell me how to "handle" my
son or my younger husband. We love our house, being in the country, but she
lives only a minute away, so we are going to move just to get further from
her. She is making it harder for my son to control his anger. The doctor and
the therapist said that we need to keep him away from her as much as
possible. I will not have my son grow up to have issues and relationship
problems the way I've had, because of her. My son's mental well-being,
self-esteem, his ability to be on his own when he's 18 or so, is more
important than her need to be "in charge", or her need to be "right all the
time"! Sound familiar?

CyberShrink's observation posted 6-17-02: We said, in response to Question #
324, that not every unwelcome character trait is attributable to a
particular mental illness. Being what you termed a "control freak" is not
necessarily related to Bipolar Disorder.
