I'm not interested in the Seafit, just gave that as an example of a 12v
drill. I buy most tools at Sears. I'm not out to impress people, just to get the job done. SV "SAIL LOCO" wrote in message ... Scott, don't waste your time with no name drills. The batteries suck. Buy a Robi. Best value. S/V Express 30 "Ringmaster" "No shirt, no skirt, full service" |

It's also convenient as there's 2 Sears tool stores within 10 miles of us.

I have a 12V drill that needs 14.3V to charge, I suppose a 9.8V drill
vill charge on 12V. I think that you can read the charge voltage on the charge-box that comes with the drill. I think any 12V drill will run on the boatbattery, but if you want to charge maybe a 9V would be better. The voltage on a boat system generally varies from 14.? to 11.5V, depending on whether you are charging with a efficient charger or you are using a half charged battery. A cheap measuring box will tell you what your voltages are when you run your engine, charge with shorepower or just take power from the battery. Geeze, what a bunch of crap, get the most powerful De Walt you can justify
paying for and a pocket inverter. Also get an extra battery. I use them every day in my job, you cannot beat De Walt for service, availability and initial quality. "Scott Vernon" wrote in message ... We use De Walt exclusively, two 24 V hammers, 4 18 V drill/drivers, an 18 V circular saw and an 18V reciprocating saw, plus of course a whole mess of batteries. Cheers Marty |

I found the 18V circular a bit light for most wood work. I also found the batteries tend to go quick under prolonged and constant loads. Nice tools for a quick job or repair though. Great for around the boatyard. To bad Bobsprit isn't allowed to work on his boat at the boatyard. He'd buy a set in a jiffy! CM |

I concur on DeWalt.... I only buy their tools now. No questions asked and
both problems over the last 5 years.... both tools were past the warranty date and were serviced for free... one repair and one replacement. They replaced my plunge-router which was a refurb with a brand new upgraded model. You just can't beat after market service like that! The tools are well built. Agreed. We use heaps of DeWalt battery drills on ships, Antarctic bases
and the like. They work, keep working and can handle a lot of abuse without dying on you - good feature when the nearest replacement is thousands of km away. Second choice for me is Makita but I just bought an 18V Makita drill for myself as it was $100 cheaper than the DeWalt and was capable of doing all I wanted it to do. I've been driving roofing screws with it. Cheap tools have their place tho. I just bought a cheap Chinese 7.5" circular saw to use with a metal cutting blade rather than get the metal dust into an expensive saw. Damned thing works well and cost little more than the replacement switch for a Hitachi which I broke by.... dropping it off the roof! Damn. Mind you we run on 240V power so our tools can generate decent torque without massive cable thickness. Thing about battery drills is the torque they can develop and the amp-hours of the battery. For cheap ones, these are the 2 areas where they cut back and it only matters if you need that extra torque that a better motor can develop in the same weight factor. Lots of other features in better drills but unless you're using them a real lot, the extra dollars mightn't be worth it. Any 12 volt drill will charge off your 12V batteries (which are higher
than that I hope). What's the problem exactly? Cheers Scott Vernon wrote: Boats-r-US has a Seafit 12v drill on sale. Is there a 12v drill which will run and/or charge off your boat batteries? Scott Vernon Plowville PA __/)__/)__ |
