Mostly found on tanks. Typical DU round has to cost a couple of grand.

You may well be correct about the cost of the round, however the average soldier
doesn't usually pause to consider the cost of the ordnance, and if he did he
probably wouldn't care. Armed forces have never had a great image of being misers
with the taxpayers money.

Further, could you tell me how you would select a different round for the 30 mm chain
gun on an Apache, you shoot what you were armed with.

I guess you load out the proper ammo.

Probably moot anyway if Doug is correct and DU has been withdrawn.

If your gonna spend that kind of money on a few cut throte murders
running in fields you might as well vaporize the whole bunch with a
hellfire missle.

I don't know why they didn't do just that, I have an uneasy feeling that
they were having fun, like at a video arcade.

Not me, They chose the proper weapon and used it. No since in spending
300 thousand when 700 dollars will do the job

If you do not want to be killed in a field by someone you can not
see, you should not be running around with weapons used to kill the
guy who just killed you. You follow me?

How do you know for sure that was a weapon? Maybe they were just farmers
going to install some new drainage tile in the ditch?

Yeah right!

I saw the video on ABC and the local channels last week, it's much
more clear and bright than the one on the internet, with great detail.
You can clearly see he tossed a RPG in the field. No if and or buts
about it. Soviet made RPG is very easy to ID, it was not drainage
tile. And with all the recent attacks on our pilots using RPG's your
not going to find a pilot in Iraq that would give a second thought
about smoking guys that have RPG's.

It is truly obscene that the execution of an injured soldier is used to
promote commercial products. I am totally disgusted.

What happened to the geneva convention? Let me remind all of you:

"Article 12. Members of the armed forces and other persons mentioned in
the following Article, who are wounded or sick, shall be respected and
protected in all circumstances.

They shall be treated humanely and cared for by the Party to the
conflict in whose power they may be, without any adverse distinction
founded on sex, race, nationality, religion, political opinions, or any
other similar criteria. Any attempts upon their lives, or violence to
their persons, shall be strictly prohibited; in particular, they shall
not be murdered or exterminated, subjected to torture or to biological
experiments; they shall not willfully be left without medical assistance
and care, nor shall conditions exposing them to contagion or infection
be created."

Remember a wounded man may not be able to put up his arms and surrender
-especially when he doesn't know where the enemy are!

MC, what was the pilot suppose to do with no ground support, let the
guy go so he could kill another day?

He was going nowhere.

If I was in a apache helo and saw guys carrying rocket powered
gernades
I'd "Smoke them" to. I'd have ZERO tolerance.

I did not hear you say you were totally disgusted when the American
helo with the big red cross on the side was shot down last week. Shot
down with the exact type weapon the guys in the footage placed in the
field.

That's not the point. You signed the genva convention and you are
required to uphold it.

Must be something in the geneva convention about shooting down flying
ambulances right?

Probably, but the if the abulance were used to transport healthy
soldiers then it is not an ambulance. What's your info on that?

Just about any really dense metal will do for this type of technology, I've seen rounds
made with hardened copper that work quite well. The big problem is finding something that
is really dense that has sufficient tensile strength to withstand the acceleration of being
fired from the weapon and at the same time is not expensive. DU filled these requirements
nicely, it's a waste product and thus cheap, as an added boon this was a great way of disposing
of several thousands of tons of unwanted radioactive waste.

DU is NOT radioactive waste, dumbass. DU is the byproduct of removing
the radioactive isotopes from natural uranium. It's called "depleted
uranium" because the valuable radioactive material has been removed.

That would be assuming he had a source to deplete! :-)

Excellent footage. The gunship must have been in silent hover mode. Those
victims "blowed up" real good!
I've got Jane's LongBow Cobra game to practice with but it never provides
people to shoot at... only air/ground vehicles and installations.
I wonder if they have any footage of "Friendly Fire" exercises? I mean they
must practice considering how good they are at it!! With all that technology
how could you make a mistake?

Yeah but jammin' that extractor up your nose to remove the tracking unit can
be a real bitch!

....didn't you just think it was so cool the way bits of those guys were
blown all over the place when those rounds hit!
Makes you wonder if they have the footage of when they bombed their Canadian
Allies to pieces in Afghanistan! Eh?

I think the US Army website has a very large game you can download.
Several gigs... something like 60?
