This weekend as I transporting gear to the car from the usual w/e away I
noticed a powerboat running a small pump discharging what seemed to be
sewage in the marina. I made a loud cough but said nothing else. As I
walked along the pier I became annoyed with myself for not doing
anything else. It is prohibited to discharge untreated sewage within 500
m of shore -so what would you do?

I suspect that your waters are very clean.

Is there a good reason why the discharge of raw sewage is prohibited?

Regards

MC asked: what would you do?

I would have said something like "Excuse me, but it is illegal to pump =
your sewage here. If you don't stop immediately, I will repoirt you to =
the nearest authoity" Then I would plyg the holes made in my boat and =
go report the a-hole.

Good gravy, Doanl...that's disgusting. Kids swim in our marina. We =
swim off our mooring. We fish off our boat and the kids at the Yacht =
Club fish off the docks. You want to go slogging around in someone =
else's fresh excrement be my guest, but keep it over in GB.

Several people have been busted in our marina for doing just that sort
of thing. I will neither confirm nor deny reporting them.

You sure it was sewage? It might have been bilgewater, or something
out of his cooler. Did you smell it?

Certainly not. There were gallons being pumped... Since it was a glass
boat the bilgewater should be clean (unlike a rust bucket's bilge :-P)

If it was sewage, you could smell it from five docks away, dumbass.
