My boat was pulled this week. She sits on a custom made steel cradle. Is
there any merit to a seperate boat stand underneath the engine area?

Not if the engine beds are at all sound. Unless the hull looks distorted or
saggy in that area, and you noticed that accelerating, decelerating, and
steering were kind of 'mushy' under power, then the hull structure is plenty
rigid to hold the weight of the engine. It's a good thought though.

Why is it sagging there? You worried about it falling thru?.
Is this a troll?

I don't do trolls. I seem to recall some articles where they mentioned
putting stands under the engine area.

I've never noticed any special supports under the engine area.

Unless you have a specific reason for concern, then I think that you should
forget about it.

Of course, if you *are* worried, then you could get a piece of 4 x 2, cut it
to length, and wedge it in.

Cant hurt giving a bit of support in the area. Just
don't overdo it by cranking on them till the hull dimples.

Not worried, just trying to think of some 'boat stuff' to do.

BTW, we don't have 4 X 2 s here in the states.

What kind of boat do you have? How are the stringer attached, and how
long are they? Were is it supported in the cradle now? How thick is
your hull aroung the supports? What kind of main engine? What kind of
keel do you have?

If you have an extra stand, it won't hurt, but is really not necessary. If
your boat NEEDS one there, it is not particularly sea worthy, and needs
structural work in that area.

Yeah thats one of the problem with plastic and wood boats.

You should see the nightmares in the shipyard here now, some wood
boats that have dimples that would make you cry if you owned the
boats. I understand wood will move back to shape some what, but these
are ridiciloius.

Joe

You would never see a stand induced dimple on a steel boat.
