We had a weird phenomenon this afternoon. The rainstorm that is =
preceding the cold front into MI from the SW seems to have swept up red = dust along the way through Oklahoma and Texas...and it rained red dirt = today. Looks like rust spots on the cars. They did tests on the stuff = and it was pH neutral (thank goodness....not Gary IN effluvia). Now = we're all wondering if we're going to get red snow tonight. Winter = weather advisory says 5 inches (ha...will probably be 2...) --=20 katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A. That's rust. The storm went right over Joe Butchers steel
boat. S.Simon "katysails" wrote in message ... We had a weird phenomenon this afternoon. I think it might also have been the paint flaking off the rust beneath...

Eeewwww!
I used to live downwind from that crap from Gary, Indiana. I think it was some type of iron grit. Why would you buy a house in the fallout zone? Have you no sense? "katysails" wrote in message ... Sounds like you got some of the red dirt from the Red River, where I
keep my boat. The soil has a lot of iron in it. Not a problem, but it does make for some dramatic sandstorms. The wind has been howling off and of for several days and that strong Southerly must have carried some of the sand your way. Sandstorms and hail make interesting combinations. So far, no locusts ![]() great sunsets lately, though. On Tue, 16 Dec 2003 18:32:59 -0500, "katysails" wrote: We had a weird phenomenon this afternoon. Hey, you don't hear me blaming any of you frozen yankees when the cold wind blows in from the North. Besides, most of the red dirt originates in Oklahoma. Here in North Texas we have that black gumbo soil that seems to have most of the qualities of tar when wet. It wouldn't travel very far. |
