My Master's license renewal paperwork is on the way
to the Regional Exam Center in New Orleans. I passed the physical with flying colors. My blood pressure recorded on the physical is 110/70 and my pulse was 64 - this is without medication, BTW. (I bet Jeff, Rick, otn and Shen44 are very envious.) I got it that low simply by exercising, losing 25 pounds in the last month, eliminating the alcohol and caffeine and eating right. Of course I also passed the **** test. Of course I documented sufficient hours aboard my vessel. Of course I filled out all the paperwork correctly. And, of course, I will continue to be a Master in good standing for the likes of Jeff to check out in the future. Thank you all listening. S.Simon |

A risk for the infirm maybe but I am anything but.
I have NO diseases, no infirmities and no health problems. When one is overweight the BEST thing to do is get rid of the weight as fast as possible. Of course, starving is not a safe thing to do but eating right and exercising the weight off IS. S.Simon "Jonathan Ganz" wrote in message ... The physical or mental elderly? When one is overweight the BEST thing
to do is get rid of the weight as fast as possible. Speed of Weight Loss When Dieting If you have more than 15-20 pounds of weight to lose, the fastest realistic speed of weight loss is about 2 pounds per week. Of course it is possible to lose weight faster, but too rapid weight loss can cause problems. 1. You may develop loose skin, especially if you lose a lot of weight. 2. You may lose too much water weight. Since water weight is regained within a very short time, this can be de-motivating. 3.You are unlikely to develop the type of improved eating habits that are necessary to sustain the weight loss and prevent weight regain. 4. Losing weight rapidly can "shock" the system and has been linked to stroke. |

Fatalistic bullcrap. As you can well notice, I'm still here.
More fat people die from strokes and heart attacks than people losing weight. Water weight is a myth. Developing proper diet has nothing to do with losing weight. If one had a proper diet and exercised regularly one would not have to lose weight in the first place. Loose skin will tone up after a period of time unless the skin is permanently stretched as is often the case in morbidly obese people who often have to have folds of skin surgically removed. Being 20-30 pounds overweight does not stretch the skin permanently. S.Simon "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... When one is overweight the BEST thing to do is get rid of the weight as fast as possible. does not stretch the skin permanently. Sure it does, especially with someone your age with skin losing elastic properties. RB |

More fat people die from strokes and heart attacks than people losing
weight. And even less for people who lose weight properly and safely. When I dropped 44 lbs, I did it properly. I'm now 210. I kept most of my muscle mass. I can crush a coconut in either hand, though I have a body guard friend who can do the same. RB |

But I'm young, so I have more time to enjoy it. Few people in my family die before 95. We already know you have early mortality in your family! I still have a great Grandfather walking around! RB |

That's why one must exercise the weight off and
eat properly otherwise the muscles as well as the fat comes off. The only way to not lose muscle mass is eat right and exercise while dieting. The muscles are what burn the fat. When I say eat right I mean eat the proper mix is proteins and carbs plus vitamins and minerals. Drinking plenty of water is very important as well. Eating too many calories is counterproductive when it comes to weight loss. Eating too many calories is good for body builders. S.Simon "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... Early mortality in my family? What gives you that idea. My father died when he was 79 and my mother when she was 80. I'd say they both beat the actuary tables for people of their generation. Anyhow, having longevity in one's family is not necessarily an indication that YOU are going to survive that long. So go on dreaming. Your life is useless at best so whats the glory in dreaming about it lasting for a hundred years? A hundred years of uselessness is pretty useless. S.Simon |

Just the opposite. When one has a job as a common laborer being paid eight bucks an hour installing systems in yachts one has no responsibly concerning public safety. On the other hand when one is the Captain of a vessel with passenger's lives at stake one should not balk at proving one's competence. Big difference there. I did a little asking around and was advised to avoid
the REC in Miami. The word is that place is hopelessly understaffed, way behind, disorganized and picky as hell. Turns out New Orleans is one of the better run offices with minimal backlog. Since my original license was issued out of New Orleans I sent the paperwork there. I'm willing to bet you it will go through with no sending of papers back and forth. I've filled out everything properly and completely. It will go right through. The rumors are that the Coast Guard is close to turning the entire process over to civilian outfits. The Coasties want out of the licensing business. But, until there is something definite the RECs will continue to process the renewals. Word is they aren't all that strict with renewal papers but they are giving hell to original applicants. Besides I still have a top secret security clearance at the FBI. They trust me. . . The Coasties want out of the licensing business. But, until there is something definite the RECs will continue to process the renewals. Would be the best thing to happen to all professional mariners. With all due respect to the job the USCG is trying to do with licensing, they have no business, being in licensing, since they have no experience in the area of the majority of the licenses they issue. When you are examined, you are examined by someone who doesn't know the subject, first hand, except in the basic areas and fundementals. The USCG, needs to let licensing go back to what it once was ....professional deck and engineering people, giving test that required a response that showed REAL knowledge, to the examiner, not just the ability to pass a test..... same applies to vessel inspections. Word is they aren't all that strict with renewal papers but they are giving hell to original applicants. Wrong Besides I still have a top secret security clearance at the FBI. They trust me. . .
