So why is it that every time this issue comes up (usually on rec.boats.cruising) that the
unanimous opinion is the Boat/US is good insurance. I've never had a claim, but those of friends have been handled quickly and efficiently. My cousin had their Sabre airlifted out of a swamp - it made the cover of the catalog! You're turning into jaxie - bad mouthing everyone just for the sake of a troll! "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... Yes, I am quite happy with it. As a matter of fact, I was notified by Boat US this morning that they are RAISING the agreed value on it, because it is in unusually good condition. Bwahahahaa! Boat insurance for suckers! Seriously, Bill...they are the worst, unless you have a total loss which they can't fight. Agreed value on Alien is 36K. Her original survey before we actually got her together was 32K. Dream on about real boats, Billy Jane. We're getting a C&C 34XL!!! RB |

Jeff, if you're serious about this, e-mail me off list and I'll explain how BoatUS depreciates gear for claims worse than any other insurance co. For instance, if you lose your mast, BoatUS won't pay for it unless it's less than 7-10 years old. This happened to the fellow who bought my friends Typhoon after a powerboat hit it. It also happened to my friend with a Tartan 33. They are the worst unless you lose the boat entirely. RB |

So you're saying that your friend didn't pay the modest extra charge for the "Depreciation
Waiver." My insurance says: "We will pay the reasonable cost of repair or replacement of the damaged item at the time of loss without deduction for depreciation." If you choose not to repair, they will only pay the depreciated value. Later they add: "Depreciation Waiver will not apply to boats after the fifteenth year from the time of manufacture." As far as I know, depreciation is standard with all boat insurance. Boat/US, however offers the waiver as part of the "premier" endorsement, which adds a variety of useful things, like small deductibles for electronics and dinghy theft, "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... Nutsy,
King Size has to do with width not length. I thought everyone knew that!! Nutsy you did make that statement about "Derelicts" bunk size. OT |

Nutsy,
POS-------Purposed Other Sham. Nutsy you don't own the boat in question. As of now it is just a wish list item. A sham. A POS as far as a Troll is concerned. POS, POS, POS, :^) POS, POS, POS,GPOS, Pos, BWAH,HA,Ha, Oh God, I wish this rain would stop! I'm house Bound! Ole Thom |

Later they add: "Depreciation Waiver will not apply to boats after the
fifteenth year from the time of manufacture." The above does not apply to my current policy through Traveler Yacht Insurace, which is costing me 120 dollars less than the Boat US policy I had on Ghost. I know too many people who were burned by BoatUS or at the very least were treated like criminals after they suffered damage that was not their fault in any way. There's a Hunter 40 at my yard that was in a long dispute with BoatUS after she suffered storm damage. BoatUS tried to claim that some damage could not be attributed to the storm directly and so on. Anything to drag out the situation and lower the settlement in their favor. Same deal on an Alberg 30 at Morgan's Marina. Too many rotten stories about BoatUS. No one I know uses them anymore. No doubt some people have had good luck with them, just no one I've ever met. Travelers insurance was recomended to me by several friends at yards who do repairs. If West Marine took over the operation that's still another reason to go with a more profesional outfit. I like the fact that the agent knew what My boat was right down to the issues she might have. So did their approved surveyor. Not so with BoatUS. RB |

Nutsy you don't own the boat in question. As of now it is just a wish list item. Actually, as of December 15th, we will have closed the deal via a contract, pending a final payment. She'll be dry through that time. The only bad part is we'll pay storage on the second boat, but can't use her. We won't take the boat until 2005 of course, but that's when Suzanne is done with school. The only change is that we were supposed to wait an extra year before going bigger, but the deal is just too good, just like the 32. RB |

Not about the V-Berth I didn't. Look it up! The berth on the 34XL is just under 7 by 7 feet! Who cares what King Sized means? It's a big comfortable bed with room for two adults. The guy even upgraded it to a thicker and better grade. Ventilation will be an issue. There are two ports that open into the cockpit and I doubt we'll close the door often, but I already have some ideas on how to improve it. RB |

Of course, I had to read further to make sure. As near as I can tell even without the
"premier endorsement" my mast would be covered in full. Canvas and outboards depreciate after 5 years, "Internal machinery" after 10. Rigging was not mentioned and is therefore covered fully under an "all risks" policy. Boat/US does offer a Basic, No Frills policy where they say up front that everything is depreciated. Sounds like RB's friends gambled and lost. http://www.boatus.com/insurance/policy.htm "Jeff Morris" jeffmo@NoSpam-sv-lokiDOTcom wrote in message ...
