The jet engine. (And don't bother telling me about Frank Whittle. He
wrote his papers about it long before the war, and the Americans were
already working on it. Besides, the Germans were already working on
it.)

What about radar?

The atomic bomb.

Donal,

"Are you suggesting that there was something for the British to be
ashamed of?"

What in the world would make you ask a question like that?

This:-

"I just wanted to remind him of his own
history of the Hitler years."

That sounde like you think that there was something that British people
would like to forget about.

Donal,

I'm sure there are more than the British that would like to forget the
"Hitler years" including the Germans

However, I do not see a damn thing to be proud of your country's action
at the time of the statement, "Peace in Our Time" For a people that
accepted that BS and then have the balls to laugh at the selection of
other's in a free vote, I really do thing should be reminded of their
own stupid mentality! You acted just as I knew you would :^) If you had
acted like the Calif electorate it wouldn't have turned into this troll.
I just wanted to, once again, point out, how the European mentality can
mock other but can't stand to be mocked themselves.

So; UP YOURS, Donal G

And; "I'll Drink To That!'

Ole Thom,
Signing off

I see what you mean.

However, I suspect that Britons had little choice at the time. The armed
forces had been underfunded for many years ( same as now).

C'mon. You don't really think that Arnold is the best choice for Ca.
Govenor, do you?

Thom, I really think that YOU mocked, and not I.

Europeans fought, and died in great numbers, in the war against Hitler.
America did help. You opinion that Europe did nothing to defend itself is
disrespectful to the millions of Europeans who died before America entered
the war.

That doesn't mean that Europe is ungrateful - Far from it! However, you
should admit that America followed a very isolationist policy until Pearl
Harbour was attacked.

So; UP YOURS, Donal G

heh heh. Sadly, I don't think that we will ever have a drink together,
but we would have really enjoyed it!

And; "I'll Drink To That!'

No! Madonna or Cher perhaps, but not Arnold. OTOH Arnold IS a better
choice than any career politician.

Europeans fought, and died in great numbers, in the war against Hitler.

That's correct but a tad misleading.

Brits and Russians fought and died in great numbers but only a fraction
of other Europeans put up a fight. Not to denegrate those who did, but
the fact is France went belly up and spread her legs at the first hint
of German aggression, leaving the Brits who'd come to help them to die
on the beaches. Worse, these fine Christians eagerly helped occupying
Nazis round up their Jewish neighbors then took over their shops and
homes! And when the survivors returned after Britian, Russia and the US
finally whupped Hitler, these fine people refused to return those
properties. This in turn encouraged a good number of European Jews to
invade Palistine creating the middle-east problems we know today.
