It's not entirely unexpected, ya know. The Cal 29 used the
Columbia 30 hull molds which were taken from the Coronado 30 model when Columbia bought out Coronado. S.Simon "John Cairns" wrote in message ... http://www.transerie.com/ Seems that a Cal 29 won overall. John Cairns |

Not according to this. Have never seen Bill Lapworth's name associated with
Columbia or Coronado. http://pages.sssnet.com/go2erie/calhome.htm http://www.columbia-yachts.com/ Of course, these links have been posted previously. Maybe you're confusing Bill Tripp with Bill Lapworth? In any event, Cal's had a groundbreaking design in the Cal 40 and thereafter an association with successful offshore racers, I can't recall ever seeing a Columbia/Coronado association.with any successful racing designs http://www.concentric.net/~Cs-cb/Sailing/ J. Ganz could probably correct me on this if I'm wrong. John Cairns "Simple Simon" wrote in message ... It's not entirely unexpected, ya know. Neither have I. Neal, please point me to that link or reference
if you can. I'd be interested. "John Cairns" wrote in message ... Not according to this. John,
You're absolutely correct. Lapworth never was associated with Columbia or Coronado. Tripp was the Coronados designer. He tried to go Lapworth one better with the Coronado for a boat for the Masses but it never came near CAL for performance. Simple is off on another attempt to make his "Banana Boat" something it will never be. It was an inexpensive vessel but is under powered, sail wise. He knows it but can't except it. It is SLOW. OT |

Old Thom,
You guys are just jealous because I'm privy to information that's not generally known. It just so happens I used to converse with Wm. Tripp before he died. He and all those California boat factories were in bed together. They stole each other's designs, modified them a wee bit to suit their thoughts on speed and produced their own version. Lapworth was pretty clever and he managed to design some pretty fast boats many of which are still competitive to this day. He was lucky enough to be able to build on what Tripp had already done. The hierarchy is Hereschoff - Tripp - all the rest. I know things you people only dream of knowing and have a hard time understanding even if you think you know. S.Simon - goes way, way back and in the thick of things "Thom Stewart" wrote in message ... John, You're absolutely correct. Lapworth never was associated with Columbia or Coronado.
