but the "c" in the above pronunciation is what you get
from our *nglish friends in similar words, eg in Scottish
Gaelic place names -- unlike the local pronunciation here.


Possibly. I could point you in the direction of a few Gaelgeoiri whose
pronunciations do not mirror English ones though.
