He turns up in Welsh legends that predate Chrétien by several hundred years, and he's mentioned in passing in Y Gododdin, which is probably about 6th century AD. Kevin |

Yes, but the semi-historical/legendary Arthur has been superseded for everybody but a few scholars by the fictional French fellow.
