Reefing

I generally leave the reef in if the Queen is along.

I just can't believe that Lisa is that wimpy. How could a woman be married
to you and still need a reef in for "protection"? Mr. Sails is a reef
fanatic when we take OP's out on the boat. Says he doesn't want to
terrorize them. Heck...I say give them the full effect. Either they'll
sail well, or they'll stay home next time. Besides, there's the insuklt
factor. As soon as some people see you reef and ask you why, they think you
think less of them for not being sailors. They will gut it out if you let
them. Of course, I think roller coasters are relaxing, too.

There was nothing "gentle" about it.

Seen it, too. A friend with a C&C 35 Mark whatever (race boat...won the
Queen's Cup and Admiral's Cup) went cruising and hit a rock "gently" in the
North Channel...C&C "smile" quickly ensued. Also, big C&C that used to be
at our former marina named "Hedon" hit the reefs off the BVI, came home
wearing a C&C "smile". Methinks would be a good thing to take a little
snorkle trip under the boat and see if it's grinning.

Not under my real name.

By the way, some advice:
Right click on the tool bar that has "New Post," "Reply to Group," etc.
on it.
Left click on "Customize"

A window will open. By highlighting any command in the left pane of the
window and clicking "add" the command will move to the right pane and
appear on the tool bar, where you don't have to use menus to get to it.
Makes OE easy and very fast to use. No cutting and pasting required.

Ya know, every so often the "real sailor" thing comes up and we know where
that leads...When I think of a "real sailor", I go back to what

descriptions
of sailors from history and literature. Did you ever notice that the

great
saialors, men who battled on the sea, or transported goods, or performed
adventurous deeds, were ALL from temperate climates? They may have
sojourned to the tropics, but the majority sailed back from whence they
came. Think of the historically great ports: Plymouth, Liverpool,

Bristol
in Great Britain to name a few. In the USA we have Plymouth, Boston, the
Chesepeake...We have all the great ports of the NE seaboard. From these
ports, we imported and exported by sailing ship. We whaled. We fished.

We
made our country great. What sailors were noted for coming from the
tropics? Pirates. Privateers. Slavers. It all fits, doesn't it? Think
about it....

I plan to have a look at the charts today and see what's what. I'm

When a young woman asked Old Salty if he was a Real Sailor he replied
"Certainly! I was born on a boat and have sailed the seven seas for 60
years, endured storms and weeks long becalmings, etc., etc." "That
doesn't matter," says she, "This is the New Millennium! It's what you
*feel* that counts. For example, I'm a lesbian because I think about
having sex with women 24/7! Never men just women! And whenever I see a
woman I think about how she'd look naked and how it'd be to enjoy sex
with her. Do you feel like that about boats?" "Well ... no" "Then you
ain't no REAL Sailor" and she flounces off.

A bit later a kid asks Salty if he's a sailor. Well, he says, I thot so
but I just found out I'm a lesbian.
