Yesterday, sailing on a close reach in Manhasset Bay, we caught up to a C&C 27
(mid 80's version) and a Pearson 32. I was aprox. 1000 yards away. The 32 was obviously showing bad trim so he could sail with his much slower buddy. I approached them slowly and they tacked together. I tacked with them. We caught them easily, but the P32 decided to trim and get busy. After a minute he was really kicking, but we were slowly edging him out. I looked back and the C&C 27 was trying to follow, but he was really slow. After our little informal race we gybed and rejoined the lagging 27 along with a Catalina 30. The 27 and Cat30 seemed evenly matched for speed. After what I've read, I'd have expected better of the 27. There are several in the area and they just don't seem like good performers. I do think that the early versions of the 27 are fantastic pocket cruisers though. RB |
