Damn!!!!

Damn, MY C&C is quick!!!! Or should I say...My WIFE'S C&C is quick??!!!
Good strong gusty day with just the two of us aboard. Most of my friends were
out...a Ericson 35, Catalina 34, J30, J24...and plenty of other boats charging
around the chop. Only the J30 was faster, but not by much. Of course, with
small sailboats, "not by much" is what counts.
Off the wind we touched 11 knots and wasn't we weren't ideally trimmed. My
friend's J30 touched 12, but he was having a far rougher ride for that extra
knot. We switched over to the 100% just to see what's what and WOW! It's a new
jib and the boat pointed like the devil. Hull speed or better and far better
control. We never reefed the main, though we should have. I left the 100% up
for tomorrow.
Downwind, feeling like a surfer, I saw a boat gaining on me steadily. He caught
up quick...A C&C 34+ or XL. He passed me and the J30 and looked comfortable
doing it. After a while, my friend with the J30 came aboard to have a go. He
felt the C&C was "great" offering real cruising comfort and good speed. He felt
feedback on the wheel was "amazing." He was impressed overall, but hated the
mid-boom sheeting. He said he'd spend 5-700 bucks and change it. He called the
C&C a "sailors' boat." No doubt that's ammo for the group!
We decided to come home....great fight on HBO tonight and no cable aboard.
Tomorrow looks like another great sailing day! Pics coming soon!

Hope you all got out there today....

Hey Boob**** if that 165 PHRF rated tub was capable of 11 kts on a 10-15 kt day
with no chute up it would be the most popular PHRF race boat of all time. I'd
love to have an 11kt PHRF C boat. Wow! What a sleeper!

I used to crew on a top J30 and the only time we went over 10 was
on a 25kt day with the chute up.

He had the boat well off the Jersey shore and scored 14 knots in heavy swells a
few years back. He's been racing for 20 years and knows how to make boats do
near-impossible things.
It was gusting to 30 today (according to our meters). I caught a gust to 20
still in the slip.
It doesn't surprise me that you never saw 10+ on a J30....I've seen it many
times downwind, but that was with sailors like myself aboard.

You might want to hunt around those ratings....any idea of why the boat is
rated as low as 150 in some areas? Usually rated around 155-158.
Meanwhile....if you can't get a J30 to touch 10 knots in 30 knot gusts, I need
all I need to know about your sailing ability!!!

And then you woke up and changed the sheets.

Jeff, if you think a J30 or C&C 32 can't best 10 knots in 25-30 knots, I'd be
happy to take you for a sail. Hell, we made 9 knots in the Catalina 27 downwind
a few times!

I hope you're not a HSJ, Jeff.

Yea, and I did 13 on my Merit 22 one Wednesday night. BUT THAT WAS WITH A
CHUTE UP. You didn't have a chute up today did you Boobie?

On the LIS, especially between hart island and Execution Rock, where it was
knocking a lot of boats around. Closer to Oyster bay it fell off. There was
even stronger air near the bridges.
