After so long away, I'm watching spellbound the kaleidoscopic DT
and the associated bloodsports. Please, guys, don't stop now!
Keep those fudge-packing iguanas, italianate families, and the
venomous bowl movements coming! A great idea for a B-grade
schlock-horror film/musical set in the Adelaide pie cart or
Sydney's Cafe-de-Wheels, where they serve pie floaters!
Bobsprit, are you still watching? You do the flick, I'll write
the score, and we'll offer the mastering to Danny, hmmm?

Nono--it's a pie floater. A dense green pea soup (sludge
consistency) with a meat pie (mainly gravy rather than meat)
floating upside down in it with a blurt of tomato sauce (ketchup)
on the pie. Given that disgusting sludgy green pea soup was a
genuine delicacy in the Royal Navy of the Napoleonic era, despite
its appearance, and that the local meat pies are one of those
disgusting things that everybody consumes in private but never
admits to, it porbably tastes quite good, but I've never plucked
up the courage. (Why should I, when our other main traditional
fast food is the Cornish pastie with nary a pea in sight?)

Of course!
And if you could include some references to "Yellow Beard," we MP fans would
be much appeased. Some suggestions would be:
1. "You'll never kill anyone if you go 'round thinkin'!"
2. "Where's my piratin' outfit?"
3. "If you say you don't know where my treasure map is, I'll nail your tits
to the table!"
4. "Don't worry mate, I'll spend your share!"
5. "It'll do the boy good to have a bit of senseless violence in his life!"
And of course,
6. "Read! Read! The last time I read a book, I was raped!"

Scout,
Being rather new, what you won't know is that Timmy's poems and opera are an accurate reflection of what this ng used to be.
Neal has now mellowed into the latter days of life and the spark has flown (away) from his vulgar tongue. Gilligan has retired
the flying monkeys and MC found out that his cholesterol levels were rising much too rapiudly with every meal I prepared. BS
was much more fun when he ahd Ghost girls instead of ALiens on his boat. We always assumed he was the Alien. And then there
are those that we have lost along the way...the sock puppets that were buried and have not been resurrected (except for the
occasional appearance of Babs...but that's mostly for my benefit...and I'm grateful to the hand that propels her for thinking
enough of me to resurrect her now and again). If you can find archives from 2-4 years ago, read through and enjoy. It was a
much different place then.

Thanks Katy,
This group is certainly one of the more prolific I've seen. I'm enjoying the
characters immensely and may even use some of this material with my class in
the Fall (with permission of course). At first I didn't realize how much of
the banter was tongue-in-cheek, and I was apprehensive about asking even the
simplest of questions. Now I see that it's ok to jump in, even to razz a
bit, so long as one can take it as well. All in good fun.
I'll take your advice and read more of the archives (I actually lurked for
quite a while before writing in). Right now I'm laughing too hard at
Taddy's material to do much else!

.....but we use turnips in them...no peas....

BbbYack!! Turnips?

Pasty Recipe...

Filling:
ground round (you choose how much)
dice up a bunch of carrots, turnips, and potato and mix with ground round, salt and pepper (needs a LOT) NOTE: There are NO
onions or garlic in pasties!!!!

crust:
1/2 again as much solid shortening as flour and 2 tsps. of chilled apple vinegar.
Use a fork or a pie dough thingy (if you cook you know what I'm talking about) and thoroughly mix the dough ingredients...divide
into two round balls, wrap in cellophane wrap and refrigerate for several hours...roll out each ball on a pie sheet or whatever
you use so that you have two circles....mound a bunch of the raw meat/vegetable mixture on one side of each circle of
dough...fold the other side over and pinch the edges together...bake in 375 oven on a cast iron griddle or skillet or on an oak
plank until the dough is golden brown and flaky...if you want, you can brush the crust with milk or egg white to make it
shiny....some people like shiny crust...

Peas be with _you_, Oz.

More years ago than I care to remember, we hosted the Region 2
Firefighting COmpetitions. The Station Officer was a baker by
trade, and we made and baked '000s of pasties for the hungry
crowds on the day. made a lot of Social Club and equipment money
on the day! The recipe was almost exactly Katysails'. AND to
stay awake at 3am before the competitions, one would take a slug
of the juice appearing from all those chopping vegetables.

(Alas, we were all so zonked we didn't win or place in any
event. Any fire would have been attended by crews of zombies.)
