Anyone who wants to be a beta tester is certainly a hobbyist.
Productivity is definitely not their goal.
In my years in the data processing business the most productive shops
were always at least one release behind.
I beta tested on a spare machine.
Like I said, hobbyist.
It does make me wonder how much you contributed to the B test if you
were not actually doing work on it.
Wonder all you like...or not. I was enough of a "contributor" to be a
Windoze beta tester for many years and iterations, starting with the
crappy 20-diskette distros and the once a week updates.
How much did that job pay?
You can get that by going to a Windows Conference or Convention.. Cost
my bud 300 bucks for the day and lectures, and he got software from them
to "beta test". I remember the business package or net package I think
it might have been win 2000 that our buddy here said he got about a
month before my friend got it... weeks before it came out..
