Several people in our immediate area have pools. At least one has a pool
*and* an auto sprinkler system *and* an electronic fence for his mutts.
Hardly a week goes by without a service van in his driveway to service
his pool, sprinklers or dog fence. Especially the sprinklers and dog
fence. Even though his pool is fenced, it is visible from the road. In
the four years he has had it, I have never seen one person in it. 
I know. A lot of people would be better served if they just had a
pond.
We do use our pool.
When I was looking for a house in Florida, I crossed off those having a
pool. No sense having something you don't care about and will seldom
use. If you use it, that's a different story.
