I think Hawaii is too far away for rec.boats. You'd be spending a lot of money flying back and forth
to justify your 'cause'.
One of the guys I worked with at IBM lived in Hawaii for 10 years
(retired Navy). He says the novelty wears off pretty quickly. It is a
very expensive place to live.
A guy who worked for me at the teachers union was offered the top slot
at the Hawaii Teachers Assn, and took the job. He was out there for five
or six years until he got an offer for the top job at a much larger
stateside association. We noticed the price of gasoline was higher when
we were out there, but grocery store prices were the same. Real estate
was through the roof.
