Greene County man arrested in 3-year-old son's fatal shooting
A Greene County, Arkansas, man has been arrested on a second-degree
murder charge for the fatal shooting of his three-year-old son, a
district prosecuting attorney said Saturday morning.
Scott Ellington, the 2nd Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney, told
Arkansas Online that Greene County resident Michael Carter, 23, was
arrested Friday in the death of his son Logan after the .45 caliber
handgun Carter was holding fired and killed the child on Jan. 11.
Ellington said the child had been shot in the head from a "pretty close
range."
"He did not intend to murder the child, however I believe his actions
demonstrated utter disregard for the potential damage to human life," he
said.
The shooting occurred at 1187 Greene County Road 336, according to
Ellington's office. The child's mother and his 10-month-old brother were
inside the residence when the shooting occurred.
Carter is set to appear in Greene County circuit court Monday and is
currently being held in Greene County jail on a $1 million bond,
Ellington said.
