When we were in Maine, we found the Quiet Water Canoe Guide,
Maine, by Alex Wilson (Appalachian Mountain Club books, I believe)
very helpful. There is a Vermont/New Hampshire version, too.

I should think you'd find it in a bookstore in the area, or in a
paddlesports store, if you don't get it before leaving.
