I believe I explained last summer that I found the nose part of my boat hook (orange tip) would get jammed as I placed the hook part around the horn of small cleats on the launch rafts, docks etc and pulled myself closer..which changed the angle of the hook to dock and boat.
I really like using the gaff.. no jamb problems.
If this doesn't make things clearer, you two are on your own.
Your thoughtfulness is appreciated. I'd still use the boat hook for hooking a dog's collar - just in
case I missed. But, I'm probably a lot older than you and don't have the quick reflexes that you do.
I'm sure you can keep that hook from getting caught in the dog's fur, ear, or eye.
