I'm thinking of going to Windows 7. I've got XP, and yesterday went to see what changes I'd have to

What changes would you have to make? I made none.
There is software that runs on XP but won't run on 7/8.
Example?
There are threads about this on the big boat board about older Yamaha

I think there is a compatibility mode deal you can do.
It's the trusted software thing. In Win7 Professional it will ask you if
you want to install the software anyway, if it's not "trusted". In Win7
Home and Win8, you have to change the startup defaults to let untrusted
software install. Once that's done, MOST old software installs. My old
DOS format MICAS program won't, though! I have to use that in XP, and I
don't use it enough to warrant the new version.
