I guess I'm due for an upgrade. My old XP box was built in 2003 and
my LG fip phone is about shot.
Getting a Casio/Verizon Gz'One phone and a HP laptop with Windows 7.
I hope it beats the two cans and string system I've used for years.

I think you'll like Win 7. For my money it is the best ever - very
fast and stable.
So how did the corn crop turn out this year?
After I got used to Win 8, I really like it. It boots SO much faster
than 7.
My buddy at the guitar shop recently purchased a new Dell laptop running
Windows 8. It looks identical to the previous Dell laptop he had
running Win 7.
I was manning the shop for him one morning while he went to a doctor's
appointment and went to use the computer, not knowing it was new. At
first I was stumped, looking for the "Start" button icon. But it only
took a minute or so for me to figure out how it worked and I am not the
brightest person with computers. It seemed to be a decent operating
system and easy to use.
At least three of the programs my wife uses don't play nice with Win 8.
One of them doesn't even have a substitute for the functions she uses.
Which ones?
They may not play with a 64 bit system is the problem. I kept an XP box,
which died a short time ago, just for MathLab. To much money to upgrade
for what in use it for anymore. Went to an IMac and going to see if I can
run it under an XP emulator.
Most software will work on 64 bit systems, it's just that with Win8, if
it's not "trusted" software, you have to specifically set up Win8 to
allow untrusted software to install. In win7 and before, you just told
it to allow it.
Some won't work. You could get an XP emulator from MicroSoft if you had
Win 7 professional, but not Win7 Home.
