We had a large tree come down due to strong winds. It wasn't on the
ground because two other trees caught it and were holding it horizontal,

I got my trusty chainsaw out along with my tallest stepladder. Did a
"dry" run, climbing up the ladder with the chainsaw not running.
I could just reach where I'd have to cut to free the tree. 20 years ago
I probably would have gone for it. But I stood there, on top of the
ladder, thinking about how that tree was going to come crashing down and
got a mental flash of it taking out the ladder with me on it holding a
running chainsaw.
Went back to the house and called a professional.
My wife would have had a man lift delivered here ;-)
If you haven't used one, it is really a pretty cool thing.
I think they are $100 a day or so for the 2 man model that has a 30'
up and 15' out reach.
We had one here the weekend I filled that 30 yard dumpster. (pay
Saturday, Sunday is free).
Around here it costs more than that to get a tree guy to drive by and
spit in your driveway
I plan on renting one of those Genie type lifts next time I paint the house.
I get nervous working above 20 feet on an extension ladder.
You won't live that long unless you did a ****ty job the last time.
