You missed the point slightly - sooner or later something -will- go wrong at
sea. The RYA courses teach you how to deal with the situation so that you
can get on with repairs or whatever in safety. The navigation part of the
course in an example - it assumes that at some time you may need to get home
without electronic aids.
You are on the right lines though, enrol now. At one time and another I've
used or considered using just about everything that was in my Yachtmaster's
course.
