The reason there are a lot of Bayliners about is that they created an
affordable, successful package, and as such have sold a lot. As a side
effect, there are a lot on the market, and are targeted as entry points to
boaters. So, individuals who take up the sport/hobby are not
skilled/experienced in the rules of the road thus poor boating skills; of
course, being cheapish means that arseholes who want to disregard every
law/rule made snap them up also.

From my own experience the most significant offender of disregarding the
rules of the road are Jet Bikers (skiers). Where I boat they can be
regularly breaking every "Dead Slow" sign they can find...all to show off
their mucking about skills to their mates on the beach. A lot of them drive
BMW's, Merc's and of course Shoguns.

Perhaps one way of resolving this is to introduce a licence
requirement/qualification for all boaters. They do it for cars, bikes,
buses, vans, scooters...so why not boating?

As far as quality is concerned, I'm on my second Bayliner, and have
thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

BTW I'm new to all this, and was in Yarmouth doing an RCA powerboat
level two course.
